A Message from Matje
‘Tis the Season for Joy!

Those of us who feed the birds do it not always because we feel sorry for our feathered friends but for a very selfish reason: It brings us great joy. A few days ago there were over ten species of birds at the same time in the Juniper tree outside my front windows. They all took turns having a sip and a dip at the birdbath. Birdbaths can attract more birds than a birdfeeder can (water is essential to birds in the winter as they need to clean and fluff their feathers in order to keep warm). There were bright yellow finches feasting at a thistle seed sock tied to a big branch. My mountain bluebird was, as always, intimidating the titmice and the nuthatches from feeding at “his” feeder but the little birds were content to feed from the suet hanging in the tree (I also break up a suet cake and fill crevices in the bark). A little gang of chickadees flew in and had a snack before flying off together. A flock of male Juncos, like little black and white balls of fluff, enjoyed the seeds other birds had spilled to the ground (lady juncos fly further south in the winter leaving the fellows behind). I could every now and again see the bright red head of my ladder-back woodpecker as he hopped from limb to limb pecking at the trunk for insects. And it felt like it was all for me: my birds, my friends, all there to bring me joy.

Joy to the World of Cats and Dogs! We have been steadily making new friends with customers (and their pets who come in for a treat!} who are finding out about us and our great selection of premium, holistic dog & cat food. It has been fun for me to share my knowledge of our selection of amazing pet foods and helping our “pet parents” find the right food for their littlest family members. It feels really good to sell products I stand behind and believe in to customers who understand the importance of quality and the philosophy behind natural nutrition and health. I love hearing our customers tell me about the changes in their pets, both physically and mentally, after they switch to a brand we carry. Today I started a charity partnership with Natural Balance. We are collecting Natural Balance UPS
codes which is just like collecting money! The money we collect will go to PACA and their tireless work with animal rescue. Knowing we contribute
to the wellbeing of our four-legged friends gives me and all of us here a sense of wellbeing too…a sense of joy.
